The Trilogy

As you well know, I’m pretty new to this whole “author thing” so it’s been a terrific journey as I navigate my way through all of this. When I got started writing my first novel I had already decided that it was to be the first in a three-part series and at no time did I find that idea to be off-putting in any way.

Still don’t.

The story I wanted to write was simply too big for one novel, and if I tried to confine it to one book I wouldn’t have done it justice. And as I continue to write I am convinced that this universe has many more stories to tell–perhaps an infinite number, but I need to wrap it somewhere, so I’m going with the trilogy.

As of the writing of this blog post, I’ve drafted two novels and I’m working on the third. Today I officially got one-third of the way through drafting manuscript #3, which I think I’m going to name “Ashes of Victory.” But that’s just a working title, so don’t hold me to it.

This particular book is turning into one long running gun fight, and it’s both challenging and fun to write at the same time. There’s a whole lot going on here, and I’m tying up all the threads and subplots together so that the reader has a satisfying experience.

No scratch that.

The reader is going to have a kick-ass experience!

My biggest challenge is waiting for these things to be released because patience is one virtue I do not possess. I have many virtues… patience ain’t one of ’em.

Bug? Feature? You decide.

Today is September 1st, 2020 and I am shooting for having this thing drafted by December. Like, having the entire trilogy drafted by December, just in time for the first book’s release. That way the reader (who will invest a piece of themselves in the story) will have a fulfilled promise from me that there is a complete story here.

Once I finish this beast I have at least three more writing projects in my brain-queue. So recognizing that I lack patience, I really want to get started on those other ideas rolling around in my brain-housing-group.

Project #1… an urban fantasy novel in Mel Todd and Doug Burbey’s Blood War universe. I started writing it, and I promised them I’d finish it. I’ve got a good outline in mind and I think it will kick ass.

Project #2… a near future story based in the 2nd Korean War. It will be my treatise on fighting in mega-cities… and I have big plans for it.

Project #3… an alt-history work about a secret war with aliens during the 1960’s and 1970’s. That one might end up being a series… but I’ll have to see. Lot’s of potential there though.

So that’s it. That’s what’s going on.

Stay tuned for more updates!
