A couple months back my editor at Ring of Fire Press notified me that my manuscript had been accepted, and that Eric Flint was offering me a contract for my very first book. I had been dreaming about getting published since I was a teenager, so to say that I was excited would be the understatement of the century. It was just two short months ago that one of my dreams came true after all these years. So it is with great pleasure that I am here to announce its release on December 20th, 2020.
The book is the first of a trilogy, chronicling the struggles of a spacefaring people retreating across the stars after losing a colossal interstellar war. The journey is long, the vessels weren’t designed for a voyage of this magnitude, and the survivors quickly devolve into their baser selves. They journey to an oasis in space, a place where they hope they’ll never be found so that they may lick their wounds and plan their next move; only to find the planet inhabited by other humans with industrial-age technology. Now the survivors fight among themselves in a struggle over whether or not to peacefully coexist with these primitive cousins, or dominate them and enslave them to rebuilt a new army to retake the worlds taken from them.
The working title is From the Ashes of a Dead World but we’re still refining that, so we’ll see if that changes. Right now the title is a bit long, so it probably does need some trimming.
My editor did tell me that the publisher is putting nearly all future works on audibooks, so that’s really exciting. Clearly that means that the book will get more exposure and more folks will get a chance to check it out.
I did mention that it is the first story in a trilogy? Book #2 (Rising From the Ashes) is also complete, and I turned it in last month. As of today I’m about 12,000 words into the Book #3, so fear not… if you read the first book, there will be more… I promise!
As we get closer to publication day (just before Christmas!) I’ll post further announcements to keep everyone in the loop. I really hope you all like it. I know I had fun writing it!
